Born in Terrassa (Barcelona), a city where she lives and works.
With over 20 years of professional career, Gemma Miralda has traced a transversal journey that goes from documentary and photojournalism work to the most personal artistic production. After a four-year studies program at Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, she is awarded a fellowship to join the International Center of Photography at Photojournalism and Documentary Photography program, NYC In 1995 she starts her career as a photojournalist working from regional papers as El 9 Nou to International News Agency as AP in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1998. From 2008 to 2017 she has been a regular contributor to La Vanguardia newspaper and its supplements. In addition, as a freelancer, her work has been published in other media as El Periódico de Catalunya and its Dominical, Avui, 7K, Yo Dona, Integral, Traveler Conde Nast, Lonely Planet, Libération, and Het Parool. Simultaneously, she teaches photography at Illa Arts and Crafts School, Sabadell. She has been the director of Master of Profesional Photography at ESDESIGNBarcelona.
In the artistic field, she has developed long-term projects that allow her to link photography with the issues she is concerned with, in a more personal and intimate approach.
